Nine Running Books You Have to Read
CHECK OUT SOME OF THE BOOKS ON MY BOOK SHELF. We have a huge book shelf at our place. Partly because we love to learn and partly because we are in the beginning stages of book hoarding. You’ll notice not all of these books are centered around runners, but they definitely help with being a more well-rounded athlete. Let me explain:
.
Atomic Habits - James Clear
This book helped me when I fell a bit out of my routine. It made me realize I have the power to change things in my life that aren’t helping me towards my goals. If that sounds corny, it’s because I am corny. But the book is not corny, I swear.
Brain Training for Runners - Matt Fitzgerald
This book always comes out a couple weeks before a race (LOL), but I should really work on incorporating it through all stages of training. Running is more than just physical; I talk about that all the time!
Uncommon Heart - Anne Audain & John L. Parker Jr.
I had the pleasure of interviewing the amazing Anne Audain a while back and feel her story is so inspirational, it needs to be more well known! I won’t give too much up, but not only is she the most successful female road runner of all time, she also started her running journey with double reconstructive surgery of her feet! 😱
The Complete Yoga Book - James Hewitt
What I reference when I’m confused or want to learn more about the benefits of certain yoga poses. Implementing strategic yoga moves and breathing techniques into my routine has been game changing for my flexibility and fitness.
5. The Daily Stoic - Ryan Holiday
Sam bought this book and I found it easy to pick up and feed a few exerts at a time to get my head right. This book is full of wisdom from the greatest minds in history.
6. Can’t Hurt Me - David Goggins
All of these books really have one thing in common: resilience. After Sam read this book he went out and ran 8 miles out of no where at a 7:30 pace. Background: Sam hates running.
7. Born to Run - Christopher McDougall
I remember when I read this book for the first time. And then the second time. This is of those books you read and instantly feel motivated to sign up for an ultra or try barefoot running. A staple on the runners’ book shelf.
8. Running Ultra - Rich Roll
Reject what anyone else tells you about age and fitness. Motivate the hell out of yourself and keep this book around when you need to feel inspired.
9. Eat & Run - Scott Jurek
This book always makes me check my diet. Scott Jurek is an incredible athlete. Another book that will make you mentally tough and inspired to run far.
